Car Seat Plus Test

Plus Testing is optional and not a mandatory regulation.
Plus Testing is only carried out on Rearward Facing restraints.
Commonly known as the ‘”Swedish Plus Test” as it was originally for the Swedish market only.

• It is a voluntary test that the seat manufacturers may choose on top of their own testing and legislation.
• This is a frontal collision test with ‘rearward facing seats only’.

• Forward-facing seats, combination seats and high back boosters are not tested.

The test itself measures the increased and potential life-threatening head forces in a forward impact. The Swedish plus test has stricter criteria, therefore, setting the bar higher.

• Higher speed
• Shorter braking distance
• Sensor measurement on the dummies neck

Forward-facing seats are not tested due to the forces on the neck. This is because a forward-facing seat; the child would experience life-threatening and potentially fatal neck forces.
